Do you remember the old song – Be careful little hands what you do? I think there is a part that says “Be careful little mind what you think. For the Father up above is looking down in love. So be careful little mind what you think.”
I have been pondering my thought life lately. When I am focused on the negative things, which I seem to have a tendency to do, then it robs me of joy. I love these verses: Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18.
There are many things that I can’t control in this life (and that is good). But, I can control my attitude. Some things about our upcoming move are very difficult. I can choose to feel sorry for myself or I can choose to have an “attitude of gratitude”.
God lovingly lays out for us what is to fill our mind.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
I desire to focus my eyes on Jesus and the many, many blessings I have been given. I know that there are challenging obstacles before me, but I choose to not allow them to steal my joy. Some of my future posts will probably be about the difficulties we are or will be facing, but I want for thankfulness to shine through it all. My online friend Amy has an ongoing “Gratitude List” and I think that is a great idea. Therefore, after every post I will list the things that I have to be thankful for that day.
1.) It is Rod’s day off and he really needs rest after a couple of rough days at work.
2.) Rod has a job that challenges him and provides for our needs.
3.) A daughter who desires to please her daddy and to follow his leading.
4.) Timmy seems to be feeling a lot better today.
5.) Children who are flexible.
6.) A cooler that actually makes me feel cold 🙂
7.) The internet – a tool that makes it so easy to stay in contact with loved ones.
8.) Rough boys, who are currently playing with toy guns and swords.
9.) A little princess, who carries herself like a little lady; but can hold her own with her toy gun.
10.) A God who never abandons me.
